RSA is seeking a Technical Capability Consultant to support and lead implementation and delivery of technical capability development programmes for specific technical areas, supporting the delivery of global business objectives. 

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • working with key stakeholders, at senior level, to define, develop and implement technical capability development strategies that are aligned to global and regional business strategy and objectives, embedding a culture of continuous improvement;
  • planning, managing, monitoring and reporting on technical capability development programmes to ensure successful delivery;
  • developing and delivering implementation plans to ensure global technical skills are assessed, measured, developed and transferred between businesses in line with current and future business objectives;
  • providing coaching, advice and guidance on technical specialism to support Regional Technical colleagues and business leaders; and
  • identifying, managing and monitoring mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of technical capability development processes.

Criteria for selection

The candidate must:

  • hold a Bachelor's, or higher level, degree;
  • have a professional membership/ qualification (e.g. ACII);
  • have substantial (typically 8 years' or more) relevant experience of working in a mid- to senior level technical role within the General Insurance industry. Technical roles are considered to be Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, Reinsurance, Risk Control/ Risk Engineering or Portfolio management;
  • have relevant knowledge and experience of a technical areas outside their own role and how other functions collaborate (e.g. if an underwriter, then should also have experience of working with and processes used within claims, pricing, reinsurance, portfolio management);
  • have relevant knowledge and experience of both 1st and 3rd party insurances;
  • have relevant knowledge and experience of key areas associated with their role e.g. accumulation management, client/broker management, undertaking case referrals, business control frameworks, customer interaction, multinational insurance arrangements, policy wordings;
  • have relevant experience of the development and delivery of technical training programmes to enhance technical expertise;
  • have experience of providing coaching and mentoring to individuals;
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills. It is desirable for the candidate to be competent in languages other than English;
  • have experience of project management, demonstrating the capability to work to deadlines and manage budget;
  • demonstrate the ability to influence at all levels and work independently; and
  • have competence in the use of MS Office packages. In particular, the candidate must have a high degree of ability for PowerPoint.
