Technical Sales / Estimator (Smoke Control): An experienced Technical Sales / Estimator within construction, M & E, Fire alarms or HVAC industry experience is ideally required by one of the UK's leading manufacturer and distributors of Smoke Control, Access Solutions and Roof-lighting Products. The Technical Sales / Estimator will quickly identify over-engineered designs and propose solutions to resolve them that delivers the best value for the client. This is a varied role for a driven Technical Sales / Estimator which involves assessing material, labour and equipment requirements for projects and analysing different quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers. The ideal Technical Sales / Estimator will ensure contracts are carried out profitably, finding the lowest cost solution to projects as acceptable to the client and assessing any potential pitfalls. Graduates and second / third year apprentices with relevant HVAC, M & E, Fire alarms or construction training looking to begin a career in technical sales or estimating will also be considered. Relevant training will be provided for the right candidate. Responsibilities: Be the first point of contact for clients, providing them with technical information and costings on a project by project basis Visit clients during the tender process and prestart meeting Assess material, labour and equipment requirements for projects Analyse different quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers Get the best price possible to win the contract in a competitive bidding situations Ensure projects can be carried out profitably and to a high standard Identify potential pitfalls and risks of the project to others Project manage where necessary Provide technical support to the sales team Develop a database of material including price updating, price break-outs, charts, etc. Maintain and share knowledge of relevant industry legislation Skills and experience: Degree / Diploma / relevant experience in the following areas: construction, quantity surveying, project control, site management, estimating or HVAC Exceptional communication and numerical skills Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail Excellent IT skills and relevant knowledge of software A proactive attitude A problem solver - able to work through complex issues on their own Able to self-manage Detailed understanding of construction plans Able to use estimating software quickly and efficiently to perform calculations Rather than simply inputting data this is an opportunity to get out from behind the desk, visit sites, meet with architects and ensure that they are working with you on the service you provide and the technical acumen you demonstrate.
